Sloan West Coast Program on Science and Engineering Workers
The Sloan West Coast Program on Science and Engineering Workers is a network of researchers interested in the science and engineering labor force in the region with a tenth of US workers, a quarter of US science and engineering workers, and many of the leading researchers examining science and engineering work force and education issues. The network hosts seminars on labor and immigration issues affecting science and engineering workers and compiles and distributes information on these issues.

The Merage Foundation for the American Dream’s e-newsletter focuses on issues concerning admission of foreign students as well as foreign scientists to the U.S. to study and work. Among the topics covered in this issue are the proposed proposed “point” system that will allow immigrants to remain in America based on certain characteristics, and will not allow employer sponsoring and a report by the Kaufman Foundation that discusses a “reverse brain drain” where highly skilled immigrants are leaving America to return to their home countries, having gained education and financial stability in the US. This piece also features an interview with Aman Kapoor, head of Immigration Voice, which recently organized a rally in Washington, DC to protest detrimental immigration policies.
