Making their own music

On May 15, Morgan's class, Year 5/6, attended a music workshop at the National Portrait Gallery, where the students learned about the painting “Choosing” which inspired them to compose the song below.  The workshop concluded by performing the song at the Gallery for the public.

Choosing
Dame (Alice) Ellen Terry
By George Fredric Watts, 1864
National Portrait Gallery, London

I want to love someone who understands my dreams, love someone

I want to love someone who understands my dreams, dream, dream
I've been working toward world fame, can't stop, can't stop now

Its a quiet lonely life, repeating my routine,
Going on and on and on
Remembering, remembering, remembering my past

This is the biggest decision of my life, I don't know what to do, smooth

Between love and drama only one can be kept
Which one will I choose?

Drama is my past, do-do-do
Drama is my life, do-do-do
Drama is my future, future, future, future, yeah

Portrait description: “The seventeen-year-old Ellen Terry choosing between the camellias, which despite their luscious appearance have little scent, and the violets in her hand which are far humbler in appearance but smell sweeter. The choice, which is symbolic of that between worldly vanities and higher virtues, had a personal significance for the artist and the sitter. 1864 was the year in which Terry gave up the stage to marry Watts, thirty years her senior, and to be educated by him. The marriage lasted barely a year, and despite Watts's disapproval, Terry eventually returned to the stage.” http://www.npg.org.uk/
