Feb '99 in Puerto Rico

As usual we went to Puerto Rico to visit Abi for Morgan's February school vacation. Unfortunately this year the trip was hampered by the American Airlines Pilot's sick out, so we had to change our reservations 3 times and leave 4 days later than originally planned.

Luckily we finally arrived.
Spikey wasn't bothered by the travel inconveniences and is always ready, with bags, to move at a moment's notice.
.

My sister, Tex, and her daughter, Shayla, also came from Arizona to make it a complete family reunion.
Four generations of women in my Colon-Castillo family, from my Grandmother, Josefina 83, to Shayla, 20 months.

Travel, wasn't the only inconvenience on this trip, Rhyana arrived with a fever and strep throat. Luckily my cousin is a pediatrician so she was on the mend quickly. Nevertheless, Rhyana didn't make it to the beach with her brother and cousin.

Of course she didn't miss out on all of the fun.

The best day we spent in Puerto Rico was with my cousin, Mandy, who runs a pig farm with over 7,000 pigs.

Rhyana was fascinated by the pigs and wanted to take one home.

We were lucky to have my Tio Mario visiting with us for the week and he accompanied us to the pig farm.

Good-bye piggy, we had a nice visit.

My cousin also owns a pony and took us for a ride.

Once again, Rhyana took to the animals and was brave enough to ride alone.

The highlight of Spikey's day was for Tio Mario to take her out on a walk to see the wildlife around my mother's house. They would count the hens and chicks, check out the butterflies, spy on the little lizards that live in my mother's garden.
.
They named this lizard, Laggy, short for lagartijo (which is what they are called in Spanish), and would go out looking form him every day. Rhyana still talks about Laggy and has named one of Morgan's plastic lizards after him and still plays with him .

We are thankful the my uncle was around and made the trip better.

Bye Grandma, see you next year!
