about

The National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) has provided funding to several university centers with the aim of advancing public awareness of nanotechnology. This website, designed at the Labor & Worklife Program at Harvard Law School, addresses the environmental impacts of nanotechnology, as well as issues of occupational safety and health. It will identify key articles, recent and upcoming conferences, links to online resources, and news and reviews of relevance to nanotechnology and the environment.

Worldwide over a thousand products are on the market using nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is regarded as a revolutionary development with the potential of helping to detect pollution as well as cleaning up environmental threats to water, air, and land. However, there are also fears that nanotechnology substances can pass through the skin more easily and may cause new forms of environmental degradation. So scientists and environmentalists are working together in hopes of achieving nanotechnology's promise and averting these pitfalls. This website will try to maintain awareness of the many developments, debates, and dialogues underway concerning the environmental implications of this advancing technology.
